Podcasts

I am on the road about 2 hours a day, so when I am not rockin’ out to Breaking Benjamin or Staind, I am listening to podcasts. Below are the podcasts that I listen to and highly recommend (based on your interests).

Application Development
I am always wanting to learn more about application development because it is what I do everyday. There are several app development related podcasts out there. Some are better quality than others, but they all serve their purpose.

  • .NET Rocks – Internet audio talkshow for .NET developers.
  • HanselMinutes – Audio talk show that deals with utilities and tools, gives practical how-to advice, and discusses ASP.NET or Windows issues and workarounds.
  • Herding Code – Audio talk show dealing with .NET related technologies.
  • CodeCast – .NET podcast from EPS, the company who publishes CODE Magazine.
  • Connected Show – A podcast on New Microsoft Technology for the developer community.
  • Thirsty Developer – Audio talk show for developers.
  • Deep Fried Bytes – Audio talk show for technologists and developers.
  • Power Scripting Podcast – Podcast based around the PowerShell scripting language.
  • StackOverFlow – Podcast geared toward best practices and methodologies.
  • ASP.NET Podcast – This podcast is geared towards the .NET Framework and ASP.NET.
  • Polymorphic Podcast – Object oriented development and best practices in .NET.
  • Radio TFS – Podcast about everything Team System/Foundation Server.
  • WebDev Radio – Web development discussion.
  • Spaghetti Code – A podcast on .NET related topics.
  • Java Posse – A podcast about all things Java.
  • Frankly Speaking – A weekly update on the tech goings in the world with a special focus on Australia and Microsoft.

General Technology
There are several great Technology based radio shows out there that offer podcasts.  Below are some of my favorites.

  • Mike Tech Show – Great podcast discussing all things tech.
  • Podnutz – DIY computer repair podcast.
  • RunAs Radio – Audio talkshow geared toward IT professionals.
  • Command Line – Exploring the rough edges where Tech, Society and Public Policy meet.
  • GeekSpeak – Weekly radio show covering all things tech.

Productivity and Self Improvement
Productivity, organization and continual learning are important to me. I listen to the following podcasts religiously.

Entertainment
I watch too much TV, I admit. The following podcasts are dedicated to my two favorite shows.

Health and Fitness
I am always looking for ways to become more health conscious. The following podcast has given me some good ideas.

  • Fitness Rocks – Podcast geared toward different aspects of fitness and overall health.
  • Nutrition Diva – Great tips for eating well.

Astronomy and Science
My love for the stars above is my reason for listening to Astronomy podcasts. Below are the best that I have found.

Humorous – Comedy
When I am in the mood for some humor, the following podcasts come through. NOTE: Neither podcast is for children as they contain EXPLICIT language.

  • Mondays – This podcast is from the same group who does .NET Rocks. If you are easily offended, this podcast is NOT for you.
  • DiggNation – Weekly podcast that goes over the most popular stories on the social bookmarking website digg.com.

Podcasts are a good way to fill the time on a long drive to and from work everyday. Heck we may even learn something too.

Great list! I’ve added some of these podcasts into Podder’s list of hard-coded podcasts, so that new users can start up Podder for the first time and start listening to them. :)

For Health & Fitness I like:
http://thefitcast.com – This is a panel of about 3 people. Each expert’s in their own field. The exercise advice is very cutting edge.

http://beyonddietpodcast.com – This one is done by Houston Nutritionist, Keith Klein. He is very good and has a lot of experience working with athletes.
